Bike Route Traffic Control

With the 2024 Tri-K Triathlon hosting of the BC Summer Games qualifier, and having the bike segment be draft legal with pack riding, the course will have a designated bike lane set up to have a safer way to manage the bike and vehicle traffic interaction. The rest of the morning field will also take advantage of this better traffic control. Note that the afternoon events are all held in the closed-off Sports Centre south parking lot and Vanier School grounds.
The Tri-K organizers would like to thank all the residents and businesses that share the public roads with our event who will have their use of the roads affected. As the participants cycle by the course's businesses, consider visiting them later on to take advantage of their offered produce and services, and pass along a personal thanks!
The following outlines how the public roads will be affected by the morning bike segment setup.

The following outlines how the public roads will be affected by the morning bike segment setup.
- Bike space will be allocated on one side of roads extending about two metres from the edge.
- Two-way traffic will still flow beside the allocated bike space, but with delineators to shift the vehicle lanes over to include the shoulder on other side of road.
- The following roads will have these traffic controls in place:
- Vanier Drive from the Sports Centre to Headquarters Rd intersection.
- Headquarters Rd at Vanier Dr through to Piercy Rd then to Condensory Rd intersection.
- The Headquarters Rd/Piercy Rd intersection will not be closed, but traffic flow across the bike lane at that intersection will be directed by Traffic Control personnel and RCMP.
- Condensory Rd at Piercy Rd to Dove Creek Rd/Burns Rd intersection.
- Dove Creek Rd at the Condensory Rd/Burns Rd intersection around to the Piercy Rd intersection.
- This part of Dove Creek Rd will just have traffic cones set up to create a two-metre buffer zone that bikes must stay within. Vehicles can use this buffer zone when necessary (e.g., passing a vehicle from the opposite direction).
- Dove Creek Rd access will remain open at the Burns Rd/Condensory Rd intersection.
- However, the intersection of Dove Creek Rd and Piercy Rd will be closed to traffic for safety during this time to manage the risk of bicycle and vehicle traffic collisions at that location.
- These traffic controls will be set up at about 6:30 a.m. and torn down at about 12:30 p.m. About 120 cyclists will be on these roads after 8 a.m. with the last finishing up at about noon ranging in age from 10 through adult. But they will be starting in waves - so they won't all be on the bike course at one time.
- There will be contracted traffic control personnel at key areas of the bike course to provide proper and safe movement of traffic in these narrowed areas. Please be aware and follow their directions for everyone’s well-being. But it may be prudent to avoid these areas during that time because traffic could be slowed due to the constrictions.
- A smaller set of bike traffic of about 20 cyclists will also use Dove Creek Rd going about 4 km north from the Condensory Rd/Burns Rd intersection but there will be no road traffic equipment on the roadway.
