Afternoon Kids' Event courses
Ages 4 through 11

The complete 2025 Event's Athletes' Guides will be available at the beginning of May on this page.
In the meantime, find below the following:
  • The general days' activities schedule.
  • The bike and run courses for the various event distances.​
 
Wednesday, May 21
7:00 pm
Live Pre-Race Briefing
Location: Online via Zoom. The invite will be sent to all registered participants. Afterwards, a link will be posted to view the recorded briefing afterwards.

The Race Director and Technical Delegate (head official) will conduct a briefing online via Zoom. The event day's morning then afternoon events will be covered. Participants are welcome to submit questions via chat messaging during the presentation. 
 
Saturday May 24
9:00 am - Noon
Pick up race packages at Shoreline Orthodontics at 1530 Cliffe Ave Suite 100, Courtenay, B.C. Local participants are strongly recommended to get their race packages at this time to avoid delays checking in on Sunday morning/afternoon. Non-local participants can get their race package at check-in when it opens Sunday. 
2:00 - 3:00 pm
Optional venue and course orientation at Comox Valley Sports Centre, 3001 Vanier Drive, Courtenay in south parking lot. Get a preview overview of the race course layout and flow, and a chance to have questions answered. This is open to participants, parents, and volunteers.

Sunday May 25 – Race Day

​Kids 4-11: Kids, Inbetweeny, Teeny. Check-in and bikes into transition in south parking lot areas

Race starts for Kids 4-11 including Kids, Inbetweeny, Teeny. Will start in age groups from oldest to youngest.

​​​Venue Close and teardown: All help appreciated to accelerate everything being put away and people getting home at a reasonable time!

Venue Overview
  • Check in is in the main lobby of the Comox Valley Sports Centre building.
  • Set up bike, helmet, and any other post-swim, pre-run needs in transition area in parking lot south of Sports Centre building.
  • Age groups will be staged on pool deck.
  • Swim exit at side door, run barefoot down a swept sidewalk to swept asphalt parking lot.

Bike Course for all morning events
  • Will be on a closed road within the Vanier School grounds and Sports Centre south parking lot.
  • The Vanier School road is asphalt and a mild grade up towards the school from Headquarters Road. 
  • ​Mount in Sports Centre parking lot.
  • Do the number of laps for the age group event distance.
    • Older Kids ages 10-11: four laps; Kids ages 8-9: two laps; ​Inbetweeny ages 6-7: one lap; Teeny ages 4-5: within parking lot.
  • ​Return through parking lot to dismount line.

Bike Course: Inbetweeny Ages 6-7. Kids Ages 8-9, Older Kids Ages 10-11
  • After exiting the pool at the building's side door, run down the sidewalk to the transition area where the bike and helmet was previously set up in a spot and is waiting.
  • Put on your helmet, grab the bike, take it to the mount line, get on the bike, and head onto the bike course loop which is the Vanier School drive. Note that the bike loop has a barricade at the far end, road entry to the school to keep the bike course closed to vehicle and safe for these younger participant cyclists.
  • An Age 6-7 will do one loop and then come back into the parking lot to finish up (see below). 1 km. 
  • An Age 8-9 will do two loops, but will be held up at the Loop End Turnaround to remove a wristband from their handlebars to know that they have only one loop remaining before they are done. 2 km.
  • An Age 10-11 is similar to the 8-9 described above, but they'll have four wristbands for their four loops before being done. 
  • All will finish by cycling the parking lot loop to the dismount line. 4 km.
  • Get off the bike, take it back to the original spot where the bike was, leave the bike there, remove the helmet, and go to the run course.

Bike Course: Teeny Ages 4-5
  • After exiting the pool at the building's side door, run down the sidewalk to the transition area where the bike and helmet was previously set up in a spot and is waiting.
  • Put on your helmet, grab the bike, take it to the mount line, and get on the bike.
  • Cycle the 250m parking lot loop and stop at the dismount line.
  • Get off the bike and take it back to the original spot where the bike was. Leave the bike there, remove the helmet, and go to the run course.

Run courses for all afternoon events
  • Start at transition in the Sports Centre parking lot after they are done their bike.
  • The course depends on age group.
  • Running surface is a combination of asphalt, grass, and track surface.
  • Finish for all is in front of track grandstand.
